What Plastic Credits actually are

One Plastic Credit represents 1 kilogram of plastic waste removed from rivers or waterways and recovered wherever possible. With every Credit, our partners directly fund cleanup projects and create measurable environmental impact. At the same time, this funding supports the development of local infrastructure and transparent, certified tracking.

Through our projects and Plastic Credit funding, we pursue a holistic approach that goes far beyond collecting plastic waste. At our project sites, Zero Waste Centers, local teams and long-term operations lay the foundation for cleaner waterways.

Companies working with everwave actively contribute to building regenerative systems. Their support helps remove waste from waterways, return valuable resources to the circular economy and strengthen local communities for the future.

Plastic Credits: externally audited

everwave's Plastic Credits are certified under the internationally recognized Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP) Standard and independently audited. Collection, documentation and processing of the waste are externally reviewed and transparently tracked.

The OBP Standard assesses far more than the removal of plastic from the environment. Transparent processes, compliance with legal requirements, and fair, responsible working conditions are also key elements of the certification.

The result is Plastic Credits backed by environmental impact that is measurable, verifiable and independently audited.

4

Yes. Plastic Credits are traceable at every stage – from collection and sorting through to further processing. Each Credit is assigned a unique identification number. This provides transparent evidence of the environmental impact and supports compliance with the new requirements under the EmpCo Directive.

5

Are everwave’s Plastic Credits externally audited?

Yes. Our Plastic Credits are certified under the Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP) Standard and externally audited. The Ocean Bound Plastic Standard and its associated certification specifically support projects that remove plastic waste from the environment. They provide a science-based, transparently verifiable framework to ensure that collected waste comes from areas where it is at risk of entering the ocean.

For everwave, this means:

  • We can transparently demonstrate how much plastic waste we have collected and where it came from.

  • This gives our partners a reliable basis for ESG reporting and clearly distinguishes our approach from models that cannot be verified.

  • The standard ensures that our impact is created where plastic pollution poses the greatest risk to the ocean.

Currently, our project locations in Cambodia — Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville, and Siem Reap — are certified under the OBP Standard. Certification is planned for Albania. Across all our projects, whether already officially certified or not, we follow the same high standards and meet the OBP requirements throughout our operations.
