Plastic waste enters rivers and waterways in many different ways. That is why we rely on several collection methods, adapted to local conditions and challenges.

In the water

Our collection boats remove plastic waste directly from rivers and waterways. Floating barriers hold and gather the drifting waste so it can be removed from the water in a targeted, efficient way.

On land

Not all waste ends up directly in the water. Much of it accumulates along riverbanks and in areas near rivers, where rain or flooding can carry it into the water. Our local cleanup teams collect this waste before it travels any further.

In households

In regions without functioning waste disposal systems, we start right at the source: plastic waste is collected directly from households and sent for proper processing. This creates local collection structures and prevents waste from entering the environment in the first place.

Detection: AI makes waste streams visible

After collection, waste is sorted in our Zero-Waste Centers and prepared for further processing. In doing so, we record not just the volume but also which types of waste are ending up in the environment.

During sorting, our AI camera analyzes the waste and categorizes the different material types. This generates valuable data on local waste streams and their composition. That data feeds into migo, adding transparency and giving local authorities insights they can use to make better waste management decisions.

Tracking: migo makes impact fully traceable

migo is our central track-and-trace platform, where all data from collection, sorting and processing comes together. This is how we document the journey of every kilogram we collect, from collection site to processing, without gaps.

Every Plastic Credit has an individual identification number, clearly linked to the underlying data. Quantities, collection sites, timeframes and processing details are all recorded and documented in migo. That makes each Credit fully traceable and rules out double counting.

Our partners get direct insight into their impact, can access documentation and certificates, and can access current content from the projects, providing a transparent, verifiable foundation for sustainability communication.

Through our own track-and-trace platform migo, we document the entire journey, from collection through to processing. Every Plastic Credit is uniquely recorded and traceable across the whole process chain. The underlying quantities are recorded in accordance with the Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP) Standard and independently audited.

What technologies does everwave use?

Why does everwave focus on rivers?

Rivers are a key pathway carrying plastic waste toward the oceans. By collecting waste in rivers, we stop it from moving further out to sea. That means we're working right at the source of the pollution, where we can make the biggest difference.

How do everwave's collection boats work?

Our collection boats were purpose-built for use on rivers. Floating barriers gather the waste so the boats can move directly into the accumulations. A conveyor belt lifts the waste out of the water, after which it's transported for sorting and further processing.

What happens to the waste we collect?

The waste we collect is sorted, dried and prepared for further processing in our Zero-Waste Centers. Recyclable materials are recycled, while non-recyclable materials are directed to suitable disposal processes. The goal is to keep as many materials as possible in circulation and put resources to good use.

How does everwave ensure transparency around collected volumes and processes?

Our internal tracking platform documents all relevant data along the entire value chain, including collection sites, photos of the waste collected, weight data and processing details. This creates a transparent basis for tracing our projects and Plastic Credits, with double counting ruled out.
